At a time when the speed of life seems to be increasing exponentially and schedules are packed to overflowing, consumers are searching for ways to find balance—and the wellness industry is thriving in response. While physical fitness will always be at the heart of the health and exercise professional’s work, let’s identify the key elements of wellness for a balanced life and explore why overall wellness deserves special attention for consumers and professionals alike.Fitness, specifically physical fitness, refers to the physical components of well-being that enable a person to function at an optimal level. Wellness, on the other hand, refers to the balance of a spectrum of health-related elements in one’s life.Popular culture has embraced the notion of whole-person wellness and personal balance. Clients often come to health and exercise professionals looking for a more holistic and wellness-based service. This is certainly not meant to downplay the importance of exercise and physical fitness.Starting a fitness program is often the first step someone might take toward becoming healthier. Once healthy habits are created around exercise, clients often have the confidence and desire to explore other facets of wellness.

New Year Fitness: 3 Top Health And Wellness Retreats For You In 2025

If your New Year's Resoultion involves your health, wellness, fitness or weight loss, here are three can't-miss places to make it a reality. Many places do not deliver, but if one of your goals for next year is to live healthier, get in better shape, lose weight or learn more about your personal health and wellness, these are three great health and wellness retreats for you in 2025. The Ranch has a very loyal following, many of whom return once or more a year, with many describing visits as a “reset, cleanse, detox or recharge.” Overall, it is not as physically demanding as many destination fitness retreats, but the combination of workouts, eating very clean healthy food with no alcohol, and daily massages in a relaxed, escapist setting that encourages detaching from work, social connectivity and outside stress pretty much guarantees you will leave reset and recharged.Men’s and women’s locker rooms have steam, sauna and whirlpool tubs, available to guests at any time, and there is also a very large state-of-the-art 24/7 fitness center that includes a yoga studio, group class cycling suite with Keiser M3i bikes, as well as ultra-popular Peloton bikes in the main gym. Here there is a full schedule of free fitness classes daily (yoga, Pilates, cycling, bootcamp, and much more) and personal training available. Westlake also recently opened one of the largest hotel pool complexes in California, a $20 addition with bar and restaurant, private day beds, whirlpool spas, and hammocks. The property has long been the flagship health program within the entire global luxury Four Seasons portfolio, but it used to be known as the California Health and Longevity Institute.

Is ‘fat but fit’ a real thing? Study says fitness better predictor of health than BMI | The Independent

Brisk walking for 30 minutes a day can have big positive impact on unfit people, researchers say Most of these studies classified people as fit if their exercise test score placed them above the 20th percentile in their age group. ... Although obesity is linked to health conditions like heart disease and diabetes, losing weight to counter the risks is often hard for many people. His team calls for independently verifying the value of a fitness-based approach – rather than a weight-loss approach – in obese individuals to optimise their health.“Fitness, it turns out, is far more important than fatness when it comes to mortality risk,” study co-author Siddhartha Angadi from the University of Virginia in the US says. Key Lifestyle Changes Men Should Make at 30 for Better Health“Most people who lose weight regain it,” says Glenn Gaesser, another author of the study. “Repetitive cycles of losing and gaining weight is associated with numerous health risks comparable to those of obesity itself.” · Researchers instead recommend improving heart and lung fitness to avoid such adverse health effects.
